Changing with the Times
I got to thinking about a post I did the other day and people were commenting on it and all had valid points. Tho one of my New Years resolutions is to try and be more positive. So I was attracted to more of the positive comments. I was talking about changing with the times and how most musicians have seen a major decline in almost every corner of the music industry.
The thing that struck me this morning was back as much as even 10 years ago music was a form of communication and we were all willing to pay for it. We as a human race we need to talk to one another, and going out to hear music in any venue was a way of doing that.
We don’t have to do that anymore we do it by how you are reading this right now, on our electronic devices through social media or what some call unsocial media. The way of staying connected today has made us become disconnected. It’s easier to stay at home and watch and listen to music than it is to go out and hear it physically. So how do us musicians get people out to hear us again well one way is to not use social media the internet downloads etc and make the people come to you. Let’s face it not too many people are going to do this, sounds more like career suicide. We can change with times and hope things turn around and there becomes more venues again for us to perform.
I am not sure but complaining about it doesn’t seem to be working either. So I think it is time for all us musicians look at this as an opportunity to band together and work together to come up with ideas on how to create new ways to perform promote etc our music.
Would love to hear ideas from musicians artist industry people and yes specially the music lovers, the fans.
Sammy Davis Jr once said always leave them wanting more maybe that statement I said about removing yourself completely is not so bad but not completely
Show people what you have but not everything leave them wanting more. So they will come out to see you to get the more.
Introduce your kids to records like we had they will get to explore the whole album and hear songs that were not released. Instead of them downloading their one song from 50 different artists. Let’s face it records sound better. They can still download and they will.
My oldest son loves records he listens too Jim Croce, Frank Sinatra, Eagles, Elton John, Billy Joel, it’s so cool. Anyways I’m starting to babble I think the way we have to start this is, we have to reconnect the artist-music-fan- for the Love it!
Put in your 2 cents worth would love to hear you communicate ideas about music.
For the love of music!
Oh yeah Happy New Year too!
